Whether they are actually racing or on our pit crew, we try to involve as many people as we can.
We also display all of our cars and karts in down town Truth or Consequences and the Schools have us display our cars and karts at T or C Middle School where we are a big hit. There are lots of kids out there that would really like to get involved in the Go-kart racing. We try to involve as many as we can afford. Our team started two new classes of Go-kart racing at Southern New Mexico Speedway. They are the restricted clone and the unrestricted clone class. The clone motor is a 6 1/2 HP. motor that we buy at Harbor Freight for $129.00 complete. In the restricted class we use a ARC .500 inch restrictor plate, mostly kids run this class. The unrestricted class is for young and older adults. Using this motor we can get someone into a kart for usually less than $600.00, which is not bad.
The Hornet class of race car is a four cylinder car that we strip and put a role cage in and a racing seat with a five point harness and go race it. If we can get the cars cheep usually under $300.00 we can build a Hornet for about $1000.00, that's if we build the car for the team at no labor costs. Compared to other classes of race cars, this class is almost affordable and it is a lot of fun. Our class had 39 drivers in it last season. Our team did really good in the points. Mike #88 took the championship, Cory #8 took second, Mark #888 took fifth, Jeffrey #47 took 16th, Gary #00 took 18th and Shannon #38 took 29th. Shannon started late in the season and Jason #J8 is just starting this coming season.
These funds enable us to get more families involved in racing by being able to help build, maintain and service more Go-karts and Hornets. These funds will help also in the purchase of safety equipment, pit passes, car and kart entry fees, fuel and parts.
